The name

UZU : 우리들의 주류생활

The Korean tagline means “our drinking life.” Its short form, UZU, is read the way you would say 우주 (uzu), “the universe.”

So UZU is one universe, and every line of drinks is a world of its own, each one borrowing a traditional Korean story.

Worlds

One world per line.

World 01 · Premium takju

Happy Bar-sool Day

Motif The children’s song ‘Sanjung-hogeol’, the tiger’s birthday party

Every guest who comes to the party gets a takju (탁주) with a personality of its own.

Rapping Tiger bottle

Rapping Tiger

  • Takju
  • 11% ABV
  • 500 ml

The scent of a melon that was never added.

No fruit goes in, only rice, water and nuruk (a traditional fermentation starter). Yet from the middle of the sip to the finish it carries a scent of Korean melon (chamoe) and melon. That aroma comes from UZU’s own nuruk blend.

Dancing Rabbit bottle

Dancing Rabbit

  • Takju
  • 11% ABV
  • 500 ml

A tartness that lingers after the sweetness.

The gentle sweetness of rice and peach, blended with the tartness of hibiscus and a soft floral-tea aroma. Made without artificial sweeteners.

World 02 · Premium yakju · Coming soon

Sulgungga 술궁가

Motif The pansori ‘Sugungga’, the tale of the turtle and the rabbit’s trip to the Dragon Palace under the sea

A yakju (약주) with a clean, rich flavor that rolls in like the sea, which is why the sea became its stage.

Hope Turtle bottle

Hope Turtle

  • Yakju
  • Hop and Hope

Brewed with hops as the main ingredient. Named for the turtle’s persistence and hope as he tries to talk the rabbit into coming to the Dragon Palace.

Plum B bottle

Plum B

  • Yakju
  • plum and plan B

Brewed with plums as the main ingredient. Like the rabbit who thinks of a clever way out of danger, it holds a fresh, playful Plan B.

Where it’s brewed

Every world is brewed at the old post office.

Hansool’s brewery sits in a building that used to be the Ansa post office, in Ansa-myeon, Uiseong, Gyeongbuk. Fermentation and ageing data is recorded for every batch and used to improve the next one.

Brewed by CEO Namwoo Kwon, a traditional-liquor sommelier (intermediate level) and licensed bartender.

Collaboration & B2B

Let’s make a world together.

We develop takju and yakju with brands, from the label and flavor to the bottle. We also welcome event invitations and wholesale enquiries.

Please drink responsibly. UZU is not sold to anyone under 19, the legal drinking age in Korea.
